About Phil Evans

Artist Statement
I began creating wood turnings in 2010. What began as a curiosity quickly evolved into a passion. I cannot explain the thrill of taking a piece of wood that has no apparent attributes, mounting it on a lathe and finding the true beauty of the interior. Many times it is astounding as to the awe that one can find inside a nondescript ‘chunk’ of wood.
Many of the finished pieces may be completed in a matter of a few hours. Many others take days to complete. There are also the pieces that no matter how hard I try they just are not worth completing. That is the nature of wood.
